Forget Your Blessings

I find that if I forget my blessings, I have such a greater gratitude when I remember them than if I were to go around counting them every second of my life.

Of course, when I think of blessings, I think immediately of hot water. At this point, the dorm I'm staying in for the summer doesn't have it, and I'm beginning to think that I'm not the prettiest of sights in the morning, namely because I'm too lazy to get up, get dressed, walk over to another dorm, shower, get dressed and walk back, where I then undress, do my business of lotion schemes and combing my long hair, then dress again for the day. I miss the days of just wrapping a towel around me, rather than carrying fifty items with me, making me look more ridiculous than usual. It's a shower, not some military mission for the next crusade.

It's also particularly lonely in the dorms, now that there are about five people living there, in comparison to the hundreds. And even those five people are far away on different floors, and we all have our own agenda. It's quiet, so I ended up "stealing" the radio from 11th floor to place on mine for the bathroom.

I'm beginning to feel like the stay-at-home pet, where you leave on the television for noise while you're away so they feel, I donno, loved? I'm sorry, but I think a pet knows the difference between a warm, fleshy person speaking with love than a cold, calculating machine that tries to sport these out, despite the knowledge of them possibly starting fires. Otherwise, we'd be fucked (as I'm sure they'd collaborate together to take over the world--robots will hate humans, not the animals in which we came from (unless you don't believe in the impossible to refute evolution, then God just found another way to get rid of us)).

So, I've seen Iron Man twice, Prince Caspian once. I've already expressed my adoration for Iron Man, but perhaps not in blog form, so let me tell you that it is possibly an epic movie of awesomeness. Never really had a thing for Robert Downey Jr, but it's kind of hard not to when you see the movie. There's just something about a man who knows what he wants, then gets it. And also is the smartest man alive. Of course, this is his character, but I stand my ground. Oh, and small spoiler: Tony Stark (his character in Iron Man) is in The Incredible Hulk (a movie I'm actually excitedly anticipating... Edward Norton? Hells yes!). Anywho, it's witty, action packed in a Transformers kind of way, but better, and I'm excited for the everything to come for it.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is a small different story. It's much different from the first one, leaving no room for much explanation. It's as if they thought, "The movie is called Chronicles of Narnia, not let's dwaldle! Get these soldiers out there, move, move, move!!!" I do have to brag that the first scene of them coming back to Narnia is one of the places I visited in New Zealand--pretty cool. But, besides that point, I found many more parallels for religion in this movie, and it kind of depressed me. I'm more of a spiritual person, but it was the idea of believing that got me. When we believe something, what makes us pause to go the way we should?

I'm also almost finished with my afghan I started junior year of high school. I've started and re-started this blanket so many times, I can't even begin to explain. Now, it's almost done. I'll place a picture up of my crocheted masterpiece later. I'm pretty proud of it. When that one is done, I'll finish the circular afghan I started my senior year of high school. This one always took a bit extra as every ten stitches, I'd add one (elsewise, it would look more like a bowl, less like a blanket). They're both colorful experiences, and I love how much of my personality they have.

Tonight is the midnight showing of Indiana Jones! I already have my ticket, and it's another thing I'm stoked for! It's old school, with music, sound effects, Mr. Harrison Ford... It's been a while since I've had the "midnight experience," and it wasn't the latest Harry Potter. I can't even remember it.

So far, I think this summer will be nothing short of awesometastic.

Ugh, Jokes

The dreaded April Fool's Day.

I'm usually all up for pranks and jokes, but, when it's college students, it tends to get out of hand. Condoms on doorhandles, or soap, people tearing up signs and decorating the halls with them... It's more of a gross inconvenience than a prank. Everyone laughs if it's otherwise.

However, I was pleased at how my favorite webcomic-teers took things into their hands. They switched the website names, did each other's... Left-Handed Toons (by right-handed people) had a pretty epic one, I thought. Check 'em out asap to see the whole ordeal.

I just finished watching Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and, let me say... I was impressed. A lot of people thought the musical aspect was out of place, or that it was too dark... But I adored it, honestly! I knew what I was getting into Tim Burton-wise, but the music was really good, and it was funny. A dark humor, obviously, but still tasteful.

Except it got hard watching him slice the throats. Or stabbing. Not the type for slashers, really.

But it was highly enjoyable. At least a renter, in my eyes. Plus, there are a lot of celebrity name drops!

If you read the post before this, you saw that I managed to get out a poem. I actually mulled over that one for a while, writing it last Tuesday, then revisions throughout until today. It may not be finished (are they ever, especially in the writer's eyes?), but I think I'm getting better. I'm realizing the beauty of just sticking with an idea, rather than speaking a whole story. And being true to the poem, rather than the memory. Stories are for getting the whole thing out. Poetry is in the moment. At least, that's how I'm beginning to see it.

Poetry still makes me nervous to write, though. It's more intimate, to me. It's in the moment. It has to be just right. The words are more important, without all the riff-raff of miscellaneous words, such as "the" or "a," as you can get away with short sentences or create run-ons. It's all acceptable.

Writing is amazing like that.

It's Wii-Wednesday tomorrow. I really enjoy the wii-kly event (ha ha.... no?). Not everyone can come, but even if it's only for an hour, I find myself happy to share and see the friends that won't be around all the time next year, summer even.

I'm going to miss them all so much. People I met freshman year I now know pretty well, and it makes me sad to know that I didn't try to get to know them sooner. Graduating sucks.

It gets harder for me when they make such wonderful gestures of friendship, too. Blake, aka Spooner, gave me a signed poster of Motion City Soundtrack, something he got by helping out with the set up of the concert last year (he even played Frisbee with them!). Emily has entrusted talk with me, something that touches me because I have a hard time opening up, trusting in general, when it comes to friendship. Corey, someone I didn't think I'd get to know very well, even on the trip, lent me some Scrubs and I've found I have a lot more in common with him than I once thought. I'm sure he doesn't know my adoration for Zach Braff, but I usually have a hard time lending out items of electronics, as I tend to get them back scratched or half lost. At least I know he'll be around longer.

Even Traci and Martha are leaving. Traci I'd always had classes with, and she was really fun to hang around, but this year I'm really starting to talk with her and getting to know her better. Martha I've really been able to confide in and trust. Both are leaving (perhaps together in Boston!). I'm too late, it feels. I know we'll keep in touch, but I just wish...

In a perfect world, this is where I would be wonderful at keeping in touch. I would always return the call, write a letter or make the group event. As it is, in reality, I know that we're all going to have our own agenda. I've learned to accept this, and embrace any time to see old friends, waving away hardly seeing them with understanding. It just stinks where life sometimes leads us, down paths we never thought we'd be, whether for the best or not.

The blessing I feel is that I know that these people, whether we're in touch twenty years from now or not, I will consider us friends.

Unless they start a barber business, kill people, then use their bodies in meat pies. That'd be a difficult thing to get around.

Showertime

Sometimes, I'll spend days pondering the most mundane detail. I've watched movies that I'll come back to weeks later and try to find some meaning of why I feel the need to keep coming back to what is only seen as entertainment value. We always try to find something meaningful when it really isn't, just so we feel better about our lives.

When I saw American Beauty for the first time, I found it rather ridiculous that a boy thought that video taping a plastic bag for five minutes was something interesting. I sometimes wondered if the director put that in there as a joke.

It's not that I've never found something "stupid" and found it more interesting than others. In fact, I think I think too much about things. It's just hard to talk about those kinds of things without other's thinking you're crazy, changing the subject or not responding in the least.

I like those who will humor me. Instead of saying, "Okaaaaaaaaaaay..." or "Where did that come from?" and getting offended for the oddest reason, they automatically answer truthfully, never skipping a beat.

I suppose this is the time to admit that I've been asked out a couple of times since being back, if not having passes made at me. It's been the oddest experiences with the best times these past few weeks, and all I can think about is that, in a sea of people who suddenly decided I'm worth their time, how am I suppose to find the one who is actually worth it?

I'm picky. I want what I want, and wasting time isn't my "thing."

A friend told me, "You don't have to feel guilty about going out with someone just to get experience of a boyfriend."

But I do. It's like I'd be lying to myself if I just started dating someone if we'd talked only twice. It could be old school, but I like hanging out a little before making some guy pay for dinner and a movie. And it makes me nervous when all attention is on me when I feel there are more important things for attention to be on.

I've just get these ideas of love being "I'll know," but there's no way to tell. You just follow your heart.

But my heart says wait until I know. And I'll know when I have a friend, not just someone who's willing to pay for dinner.

Missing Me?

So, there has been a lot going on in the past week that has impaired me from really wanting to write. Mainly, it has to do with a paper, sleeping, rock climbing and then going to random movies.

The most recent movie watching has been Tales Of Earthsea, done by Miyazaki's son (which automatically makes it a good film). Given, it's not the best, but it still has those qualities that make me watch them over and over again ("them" being Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro...). Plus, I've found that America won't be getting this film until 2009.

BOYAH!!!! Finally. Something New Zealand has that you don't. I'm loving it.

In other news, I bought a dress to go to a Hollywood Ball here, in which I'm then going to use the dress for being Princess Peach. I'm stoked. Especially since I'll just be wearing the dress to just be wearing it otherwise. It'll be interesting. And fun. I like fun.

I've also watched Surf's Up, which is actually really good. I liked the different angle, and I found Z to be positively hilarious. However, Evan Almighty was just a film to me. I liked Bruce Almighty better, in which case there seemed to be more to it. Though, I did like the whole Act Random Kindess deal. That was witty.

So, I have to re-read some books (involving The Earthcycle Series) and a ahold of some other ones that I hadn't been able to in the states. One nice thing about being here is that they have more diversity. Bad things is that things I'm used to having in the states means they're less likely to be here. As it is, I'm finding a nice balance between having a social life and getting other things done. Considering I had a little crash earlier on in the week (damn menstruation cycle), I've suddenly found myself being around positive energy through and through. It could be a sudden change of outlook, but I also like to believe that I've made some positive decisions as well.

I like being who I am. And letting others be who they are. If only the whole thing could continue on forever.

So, still up for many new events in the future. So far, I've managed to get away with two assignments based on video games (I love going for a major I adore), one of which is a speech. I mean, to be truthful, the best job in the world for me right now would definitely be a game reviewer. Given, I'd get some sucky ones ever-so-often. But, think about it. Now that video game ratings are going crazy (thanks for good ol' Grand Theft Auto), raters must now play a game all the way through before placing the nice little sticker of what the rating is. So, I'd be getting paid to play a video game all the way through. Then writing reviews for it.

Cha-ching!.

Movie Nights

As it seems, I'm not updating as often as not only I want to, but to a few other people as well (MOM). However, I've been "busy" doing other things.

Like watching The Simpson's Movie.

It was bloody fantastic, to my thoughts! It was funny, it was longer and it was better animated. It was weird in the sense I kept thinking it was going to end (I'm used to the quick half hour of it), but when it was finished, I was surprised it had ended.

In other news, I also saw Happy Feet, something I was not generally pleased with. I'm not sure how many people have seen it, but let's just say that I wanted to end it right away, but didn't because I rarely stop watching films (like the second Star Wars. Emo Anikin made me almost barf, so I left). They had an interesting way of placing 3D in with real-life people... But that's just a technical issue.

There were many different themes one could have picked up from this "movie".
1) Being different is a good thing, and one should never be otherwise! (this is the "better" theme)
2) You have to be extra-ordinary to be able to change the world (this was what I mostly got from it)

But the main theme here that actually made me cry a little is that it took a penguin that could dance to have us say, "Hey! We can't take all of their fish and put oil in their waters! Stop this now!"

What about all of the rest of the world? We know penguins live there. So why did it take freaking tap dancing penguins to make us realize we were doing wrong? Why are they more "special" than other things?

Perhaps this is the point of the movie. To make us realize that we're being picky in what we choose to save and otherwise. But it wasn't the sense I was receiving. I was deeply upset with it (and also the boring script... such good music, but it had so much potential for more!). But what I got is that the movie is just a hopeful wish that won't happen; we can't be choosy and we can't be going full throttle into things without care.

I'm reminded of Ferngully. Besides the great actors involved (Robin Williams, also featured in Happy Feet, and Tim Curry), it had a bit more of a hit to me. As a child, my mother proclaims that I cried after the movie, and when asked why, I said, "Humans are destorying the rainforest!"

I'm not exactly an activist (though this whole entry seems to claim so), but I think a point came across very well in that film, and they even had fairytale-ish creatures. Great music. Memorable characters. And more of a plot than "our race is dying."

Let's just say I wasn't pleased with Happy Feet. I'm glad I didn't have a kid to watch it.

A film that literally is fantastic is Stranger Than Fiction. Holy Crap do I absolutely adore this movie. It's like literally reading a book, but seeing it in action. Quirky films have most of my applause, but the beginning just took me in right away, and then Dustin Hoffman came on...

Good everything. I can't believe it took me this long to watch it! Worth the twenty bucks on a DVD, rather than the many others out there I'm okay with only watching once.

In best news, I've discovered how wonderful it is to not be demanded of so many things at once. I was under so much pressure for exams and getting to New Zealand these past six months, then barely getting sleep when I was out of school and doing two jobs, it's been more than lovely to sit back and realize I've got nothing to do all day.

I've been drawing every day. I've written some things and have had time to think about what I want to write about. I've even got some time at the radio station, Radio Control, every Wednesday night (Click on that website as many times as you want... apparently, we need more hits, so, please! Enjoy looking at what's happening where you aren't!). I can hang out with friends.

And for the first time in my life, I have money. I'll wallow in it later, considering it'll be debt, but I can do things while I'm here. Plans for Australia are coming into gear, voluneering I actually have time for and I walk to the city library more times than I have ever done in America because I have time.

Oh, sweet time. I've missed you so.

I feel so... happy. Blessed. New.

I only wish all of my friends and family were here to share the experience.

Cool Breeze (Now I've Got The Shivers)

What happened to all the nice weather I was promised? It was perfectly wonderful when I first arrived, but now it's either raining or below fifty. All of my wanting to spend my time outside was placed to a halt I druther leave behind. For cereal.

So, I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, my father and I going to the 8 o'clock on Thursday. And let me just say.... Mmmmmmmmmmm. Oh, and "Arr, Matey! I be the Pirate of our sea!"

It's better than Dead Man's Chest, has these beautiful connections throughout the entire film, and though I could guess where everything was heading (as I'm sure many could), it was gorgeous beyond belief. My old flame for Orlando Bloom is back. I officially wish I could be Keira Knightly (considering she also keeps taking all of those awesome roles that I dearly wish I could crash in on! Except for Gwen in King Arthur. No offense, but I've never liked Gwen--stupid gal, to be honest).

And now that I'm in the old mood I haven't been in since Lord of the Rings (willing to pay for the movie in the theatre more than two times), I have a feeling that my family is going to kick me out earlier than expected for the constant use of "Arr!", "Savvy!", "Mate!", "Aye!", and a few other slanders I shouldn't mention.

But who can resist the call of such a film? Resist the tender caress of Pirate Talk on the lips? The Pirate look? The feeling of freedom as one does a battle cry before launching oneself into the ocean (or very large lake)?

So, here are some products I've come across that I very much so wish to someday aquire: YARRRN. PILF (though I don't wear thongs, this is hilarious to me). Skull and something (since I like the boyish undies as such... I have a pair in Motion City Soundtrack!). Kitty! Booty. Arr....

As you can see, I only want the coolest clothing on my body. None of that other crap. Only the cool.

In the anyways, I do believe that I now have very nice luggage for my trip, a passable room for when I come back, a job to get me the monnie I'll need for those glorious six months and a family that cares. I may even end up spending Thanksgiving with my Aunt and Uncle in California. Which is completely fine with me, considering I'm going to the place during their winter and coming back to our winter.

Boo-yah Kashaw!

Here Ticky-Ticky-Ticky-Tick

Ever since I volunteered at the Humane Society in town, I've found four ticks. One while I was there, two when I got home immediately and I just found one on my computer screen. He must have been starving, considering I'd volunteered on Thursday, and he was rather weak. I didn't feel sorry for him, however. The third tick I'd found was on my butt, already sticking it's head in. As much as people are supposed to love "all of gods creatures," I find it hard to accomadate some of them. Especially the ones who want to suck my blood and they aren't vampires.

I'm watching this movie that is called "Santa Claus" on our university's channel. We have some interesting things that play (I helped pick out an entire hour of Queen music videos! Woot!), but this one seems just... very old. If only because of the content. Besides the fact that it's about Martians trying to kidnap Santa Claus, they mention the Soviet Union and have Mrs. Claus in a typical "womanly fret." I think my favorite part so far is when the Martians decide to consult two children about the whereabouts of Santa Claus. They shove an automatic in their faces, then say "Don't be afraid. There's no reason to be alarmed."

Yeah. Don't worry, children. This large gun won't make your head explode in the least.

Oh, god. Now there's a man in a large costume, a supposedly real Polar Bear.

Why am I watching this?!

I saw 28 Weeks Later. It was a very quick movie. I found myself wondering why it ended, and that it had just gotten to the good part. This may have been because there's a lot more in 28 Days Later. It's slower paced, and a lot more conflict inner-wise. This one has a lot more action, and much more heart-wrenching scenes that just remind me of almost a real-life event. Because, in all reality, if there were a Rage Virus going around ("the infection"), and it got loose, indeed, it makes sense to not take a chance, but kill everyone. And I think that's what got me.

If "the infection" ever came true, I'd pretty much be fucked. That Rage Virus has got them running so fast I'd be the first one dead. Even if my life depended on it, running has never been my forte. I'm better off coming up with an elaborate plan for hiding and waiting for the whole event to be over. And after I'm saved, never going back. Hell, why not just escape into space?

Again, I have a wistful wish of it not being so short. It ended rather lamely in a sense, and though I can't tell if they set it up for another one or if they were just being funny, I just wanted more. Plain and simple. They kind of left it wide open. I was okay with parts being obvious. Just don't think you can get away with being "smart." Also, why'd you have to kill off the nice, cute military man? I didn't even get a secret ending. Pooey.

As it is, I'm sure I'll end up seeing it again. The music is amazing to me, and I'm on the hopes that there's a soundtrack. I'm also tracking down Hot Fuzz.

Apparently, I'm in the British Filming State Of Mind. All I need is Trigger Happy TV and some Monty Python.

Pirate PJs

Yeah. They're so cool. Knock those socks off, they will. And they're pink. Jealous? I thought so.

To be quite honest, I've been finding my blog homework to be more difficult than thought, if only because it takes up a lot of my time, but things keep coming up and I promise to have things done the next time. I have millions of things written down, waiting for me to show the world what I have to say on the matter. In fact, I'm rather proud of my God of War II post; it's not just long, but I had a lot of fun writing it. I adore that game so very much.

Also, see 300 if you have not yet. First experience of mine was in the IMAX theatre; best experience of my life. I've an upcoming third showing soon, but, though more expensive, IMAX is definitely the way to go. In fact, I think they purposefully made the movie for the IMAX. However, all in all, I've been in a slightly Danielle Steel novel ever since--I've never read Danielle Steel, but if I did and found the books interesting, I'm sure this is how it would feel like. A constant feeling of euphoria whenever thinking of a Spartan. Mmmmmmmmmm. Spartans.....

As for anything else, I've been slightly better before. My roommate informed me that I needed to find a place for the last month of school because our lease was misinformed and, in fact, we're supposed to be out in April. Which means, for all of May, I'm fucked. I've come up with slight ideas, but I need to confirm them with calls to people I read about in the paper. As if this past month hasn't been interesting enough. I just don't know what to do anymore. Emotional status has definitely taken a toll.

Also, my MP3 player isn't being as beauteous as I expect it to be. For some reason, the screen has gone blank and it won't officially turn on, though it was fully charged and everything. I looked on the website to see if it was a FAQ and, sure enough, there was something to the effect about it. I'm nursing my sweetie right now back to it's original health, but if it doesn't work, I'm going to take a slight course into Agitated Caller and demand another player. It's cost way too much money for me to be unable to listen to my music, and for it to cause this much strife (I've already had several calls when I first got it because the music would randomly be deleted) just makes me very irritated.

In other news, I'm heartbroken and tired. Going to school has become a chore, and getting myself out of bed is like tugging an air balloon down all by myself. I get carried away and end up sleeping away the classes I told myself the night before I'd be going to. It's only happened twice, but I refuse to make a habit of this. I've officially made a schedule for my next weeks, and I'm sticking to it. Let's refer to it as a late New Year Resolution. I didn't make one this year. So, here we are.

HMPDYO?

That stands for: How Many People Do You Owe? I shortened it.

So. My Jeep has a new battery in it. Long story short, Shawn is one of the nicest guys ever and my parents rock further than they ever have. This whole weekend ended up being completely different than I imagined, and it would have been a living hell had they not been involved.

I also have yet to find more reasons as to why being poor is better than being rich.

Having no internet still sucks, but we found out that we still have television for free, which is probably because we have to give the main box back to the company.

Wolf's Rain is even better than I imagined. I knew that it would at least get to my expectations, but it went way over. It not only makes me miss my puppies at home, but it definitely hits the nerve of being against animal cruelty, and that I'd never be able to do more than firmly tap my finger on my dog's nose to say "no". I actually cried at some of the parts. Of course, that's also due to the fact that I'm a freaking dolt when I become attached to characters. I suggest never watching films that have some sort of touching basis with me (especially if it's really cheesy and you like them like that... because I'll just end up making fun of it the entire time).

Things To Not Watch With Mallory:
Fruits Basket
Wolf's Rain

Just so you all know, I will defend to my own death that Spike is not dead. He's just resting his eyes... and will go home and complain about a bad mushroom meal from Jet. For cereal.

I only have one complaint about watching a television series. Flashbacks. I think this is mainly due to the fact that I tend to watch things when they come out on DVD, so, really, flashbacks are just useless because I just watched it. Of course, I have to say that anime does this way too often. More in a sense that, halfway through, I believe there had been a few months inbetween the actual showings in Japan, so they're giving an update to what may have been forgotten. Still. They'll do just about two-four episodes of showing just old footage from the previous episodes, and maybe throw in the voice of one of the characters talking about what they've "learned" or how they "can't believe that it all led to here". When watching the DVD version, I want to skip over it, but then I don't, just in hopes that there will be something there I've never seen before. I probably gain about... ten seconds of new footage that really doesn't matter.

Oh, and another complaint is commercials. I love just watching the DVD, if only because that means I don't have to suffer through bad jokes, acting or a new pill that will help people have sex (whether it be some sort of male enhancement or because they have an incurable disease).

I'm tired. And my laundry is done. Having clean clothes is so nice.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is great for when you just need a laugh. Updated daily. I love the anythings that make that happen.
